Normally I know what to say but today I’m out of words 😦

Sunday was a sad day in Barcelona. I can’t believe what is happening there, so much violence. Good luck Catalonia, stay strong!Barcelona is one of my favorite cities, so I thought that today is a good day to share with you two of my favorite spots of the catalan city: ‘El Peto de la Llibertat’ mural in Plaça Isidre and Plaça Espanya.

El “Petó de la Llibertat” or “Kiss of Freedom” in English is a modern piece of street art created in July 2014 by the artist Joan Fontcuberta. It is located in the square of Isidre Nonell in the district of Ciutat Vella of Barcelona. The piece of art is created by 4,000 photographs which recreate a kiss, a magic moment between two people.

From the distance, you can see a beautiful kiss. Then, when you are in front of it, you can see  each of the 4,000 picture of the life of different people in detail.

At the end the concept behind this wonderful piece of art is living free, the optimism, and a wall without limitations and barriers. Not only this but also to show the world that Catalonia is full of happy people that looks for freedom.

So guys make sure you get close to it, and trust me you will be as impressed as I was with the little pieces that made that final magical kiss, such a brilliant idea.

Plaça Espanya is definitely one of the best spots in Barcelona. It´s located at the foot of the Montjuic hill. If you are wondering how to get there, or what to do there, keep reading!

First of all you can go to Plaça Espanya by metro, both the L1 (red line) and the L3 (green line) will take you there. There is also the bus option. Lines 13, 50, 91 and H12 stop all in Plaça Espanya.

Let’s not forget about the second part: what to do there!! To begin with, the Magic Fountain of Montjuic, one of the highlights in Plaça Espanya if you want to chill, listen to music and enjoy a beautiful display of water and light, then this is the right place to go. I have to mention that the entrance is free. Best moment to go is at night.

There is also the MNAC (Museu d’Art Contemporani de Catalunya), which is one of the best museums in Barcelona. The Venetian Towers which lead to the Magic Fountain and also to MNAC, are also a must see.

Finally, after exploring comes shopping, so at the other side of Plaça Espanya stands the Arenas mall, an old “plaza de toros” (bull-fight stadium) turned into a modern shopping centre. Besides the large array of shops and restaurants, there is a high profile gym and a cinema. However, the best part is the open rooftop, which is accessible to the public and offers a great and new 360 degree view over the city.

There are so many other incredible spots in Barcelona, but I don’t want to spam you. The best thing you can do is to go there, explore it by yourself, and enjoy the moment.

Let’s hope that Barcelona, Catalonia and all the Catalans recover the peace I found when I visited the city some months ago.

I hope you liked the post and the pictures, the next articles will be about my wedding so stay tuned. Love you.

Ciao ❤

  2. WOW! This is such a gorgeous murals. I truly love that style – which I don’t know the name of – creating a big image by putting all the little pictures together. I also love the concept you shared: it is true, everything starts from a kiss.x

  3. Enjoyed reading your post on Barcelona, it is a shame that there was so much aggression shown by the police. I hope that they resolve the issue peaceably. We are from England but live in Andalucia, we have experienced only love and kindness from all from all of our Spanish friends and I hope that this continues. We have visited Barcelona but did not see the places that you saw, we need to visit it again.

I live in Spain but fortunately enough of a distance from Barcelona to not be affected by the tension. Thanks for sharing the lovely post talking about some of the positives you can find in the Catalan region 💚
