Where to begin when writing about Cartagena?
From Medellin, the City of Eternal Spring, we flew to Cartagena in Colombia’s Caribbean coast.A city known for its colorful colonial architecture and its tropical caribbean vibes.
As soon as we we arrived, we checked in at the Intercontinental Hotel, kept our bags there and then went out to visit, no time to rest!
We started by the walking tour through the old city, we visited the Castle San Felipe, a former military complex that was strategically built to prevent pirates and treasure hunters from entering cartagena. We also took a walk around the walled city, we visited some of it’s iconic sites and mingled with locals.
We also visited Getsemani, a colorful neighborhood filled with culture and history. I highly recommend it, I really liked this neighborhood. One of my favorites places in Cartagena.
Afterwards, we stopped by Chachara restaurant to have a fresh drink! This restaurant has a cool vibe and look, and good news, the prices are reasonable (aka value for money). As an extra, they have live music and indoor/outdoor seating…I recommend this lovely restaurant!
Later on, we headed back to the hotel and got ready for dinner. We went to a restaurant in the old city which was a pretty cool place with live music and great food. Of course we ended up the night with a Colombian party. We partied at a club called La Movida which is a small club located in the old town, the music was great, fantastic drinks and cool ambience.
The day after was a chill day. We choose to do our own visit instead of going to the boat party in the island Isla Grande. That day, my husband and I decided to chill at the pool, we stayed at Intercontinental Hotel which offers 360 degree ocean views and an awesome ocean-facing infinity pool and a bar filled with delicious fruity cocktails that will have you wondering if you should ever leave your hotel.
We also walked through the old town streets, did some shopping and tasted yummy colombian food. While walking around, we spotted a restaurant called Lobo De Mar.This restaurant is located in the heart of the old town. It offers great seafood dishes. I had Ceviche, it was so yummy!
If you are a seafood lover, then you are in the right place. Cartagena has the best Ceviche and it’s so good, one of my favorite dishes!! We were happy about our choice.
In the evening we had dinner with some friends in a restaurant at the Charleston Hotel.I personally loved this place as soon as I entered. The restaurant is so pretty, it gave me the feeling of being in a fairytale. Everything was white, with candles and flowers all around. The food, more expensive than average, was delicious.
The next day we did a day trip to Baru island, which was so much fun. (Blog post will be posted later this week).
To end our trip to Colombia, they organized a dinner for us in Marea, which is a restaurant located by the cartagena bay and offers a beautiful view to the walled city and the ocean. The chefs in charge are Jorge and Mark Raush, who have been awarded several years for their restaurants in Colombia and have been part of the list of Latin America’s 50 best restaurants. At the end of the dinner they announced the winners for the social media contest. Surprisingly (or not), I was the winner of the big prize which was a trip to Colombia that I will be doing in January!! I’ll will announce soon the destination, stay tuned!!
Once the event was over we headed to Alquimico, a club located in the old city, to enjoy our last party. The place has three stories (the top is a rooftop) and there is a bar on every floor. The music was so good! I had a blast with my husband and friends.

Great pictures. I like how you photographed yourself from the back. I’m 60 years old and close ups of my face are frightening. I’m going to try your technique next time I travel so I can have some enjoyable photos.

Your pictures are so colourful and exactly how i imagine Colombia to be like. Colombia is right at the top of my bucket-list. Your post is so inpiring and you are just making my Colombian wanderlust to kick in even more!!!

Wow! I really love the photos you took in Cartagena. Everything is set in the same color scheme from red to dark yellow. Wonderful! I am yet to go to Colombia and I hope I will make it there soon.

CARTAGENA looks like a fantastic city. I love the colours and the architecture. I always begin my visit to any city with a walking tour. Good way to meet people and get the lay of the land.

We have a friend who have always invited us to visit Cartagena and now thanks to your post we know why. With your photos you inspired us and we’d love to try your same experience especially the tour around Getsemani!!
