The third day of our trip in Cartagena, was awesome! We took a day trip to Isla Baru.

Early in the morning we jumped in the bus and we headed to Isla Baru. We visited the Aviary of Baru for two hours. It’s the largest aviary of the Americas, which houses more than 138 bird species including toucans, pink flamingos and corona cranes..

Afterwards we arrived at the beach, and tasted a typical caribbean lunch that was very delicious. Then it was time to swim in the delightful turquoise water. On the beach you can do many activities such as Banana boat ride, Jet Ski, Boat ride around the island… My husband and I went for the Banana Boat, it was so much fun!

After having fun at the beach, we came back from the Island and went to watch the sunset at Cafe Del Mar. This touristy-but-amazing outdoor bar is located on Cartagena’s stone walls and offers an unbeatable sunset view that can’t be missed on any trip to Cartagena. Besides that, it was a cool spot to get drinks before dinner.

  1. Those pictures are stunning! I wish I knew about this place when I was in the area. Definitely an opportunity missed. I hope I can go back because Isla Baru looks like a dream.
